The Best Travel Beard Trimmer in 2020
A good, travel sized beard trimmer is an essential item on your ultralight travel packing list.
Well, there's a clear winner when it comes to battery powered beard trimmers for travel, but also a few other options you may consider.
The elements of a great travel beard trimmer
It has to be travel sized, and it has to get the job done.
There's thousands of great electric beard trimmers, but they're big, bulky, plug into the wall and aren't designed for lightweight travel.
Battery operated beard trimmers are the way to go, but it brings one problem: replacing batteries all the time. Fear not, there's a clever solution for that I describe below.
The best beard trimmers for travel
Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler 3-In-1 Men's Body Groomer With Beard Trimmer
Let's just start with the best battery-operated beard trimmer: the Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler. This single AA battery beard trimmer can trim down a big gnarly beard and comes with length attachments if you want to control just how much you trim down to. It even comes with a straight-razor attachment for those who want an occasional clean shave as well. Personally, I threw away all but one length attachment (and obviously got rid of the stand it comes with).
In all the beard trimmers I've tested over the years on the road, this is the smallest, slimmest one out there still capable of trimming my beard in a reasonable amount of time.
And I told you there was a solution for the replaceable AA battery situation...
AA Batteries - USB Rechargeable Double A Lithium Batteries - Li-ion Battery Cell - 1.5V / 1200mAH (4-Pack) - Not NI-MH/NI-CD/Alkaline Batteries - ECO-Friendly and Recyclable - No Memory Effect |
Behold the magic! These AA batteries have a built in USB plug that allows you to recharge them by plugging into a computer, your phone charger or any USB port. Coupled with an OTG cable and what I consider the best USB C wall charger, you'd have yourself a USB C beard trimmer. These self charging AA batteries that work anywhere normal AA batteries work. Freaking amazing - these changed the game.
The Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler along with one of these magic batteries is far and away the winner, nothing comes close, but I've tried to go smaller with other travel beard trimmers...
Wahl Lithium Micro Groomsman Trimmer
This popular little number seemed so enticing. It is super slim, just a little thicker than a pencil and runs on a AAA battery (oh, just you wait, there's magic here too). To be fair, this was not designed to be a beard trimmer, at all. It's meant for eyebrows, nose hair and quick fixes. I was feeling brave, so I gave it a shot.
If you are incredibly patient, and I mean VERY patient, you could get by with this. If you only trim your beard every few months, then this could get you by to tame your moustache, slowly trim your neck beard and the like. Then every few months you could just hope you stay with someone who will let you borrow their legit beard trimmer.
Oh, and the AAA battery...

Oh, and the AAA battery...
Yup, just as magic. These AAA batteries have a micro USB port so they can be charged just like many smartphones. So if you do go for this tiny trimmer, just pop in one of these batteries and you'll never worry about replacing batteries on the go.
Finding the best battery operated travel beard trimmer
I'm always on the lookout for something better than the Proglide, I'm convinced there's a company out there that could slim it down just a bit more and shave a couple grams, but until then, Gillette is best. If I ever stumble upon something better, I'll surely update this post, I look forward to that day.

ReplyDeleteYeah, beard is the greatest part of our style and the trimmer has been the part and parcel for our daily life whether we are at home or office or on travelling as we love style, we love handsome fashionable look. I trailed to the end of your awesome review. Of course there are thousands of electric beard trimmers and that’s the problem to own the best one as you have to consider quality, size and power capacity.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great work in this review with handsome solution for travelling. Basically, I use Panasonic All-In-One Trimmer ER-GB80. But Wahl Lithium Micro Groomsman Trimmer has drawn my attention for its tiny figure. May be I will change my preference to this one. Now would you please let me know how long does the battery power last for one time charge?
The usb AAA battery in the Wahl has been a bit inconsistent for me, I think it can drain a bit when not being used. I trim so infrequently though that it's not a big issue (every few weeks, sometimes longer). So I charge it fully before each use, but it usually has juice if I wanna do any touch-ups in between.
Deletea few other ultralight travellers (tynan from tynan.com) use this. haven't tried it but heard it does the job. apparently it's for trimming pets!
