Results from my Day in Court

Two days before Christmas is when I got arrested for the whole knife thing, it was quick and relatively painless, I was held up for 2 or 3 hours in the station and given a court date which was in January. The result of that date was another court date which was today.

It took the better part of the morning, but in the end I'm left with 3 days private community service for what's being deemed "Disorderly Conduct", a charge that will be removed from my record in a years time. I also have to appear in court one more time on June 12th so they can confirm I've completed my 3 days of service, I can choose whenever and wherever I want to serve that, it'll end up being a lot of fun actually.

My week or so back in this part of the country has been pretty great. My friend Mark is a free man for the first time in a long time, we've been recording music and drinking, enjoying life. We hopped on a bus earlier this week to Philadelphia where we spent a few nights. The first night we were without a place to stay, so Mark got to share the type of night I've seen more than once in the past year - wandering mostly unfamiliar streets catching loose chunks of sleep here and there waiting for the sun to rise.

The second night was spent couchsurfing and the next at Heather and Melissa's apartment, two sisters I met and hadn't seen since high school. Every part of the trip rocked, and was filled wake-to-sleep with new beers and good food. We left Thursday night with the feeling of new and rekindled attachments to people and the city itself, later there was even loose talk of getting an apartment there. I'm not the type to live somewhere, but I'm all for someone else doing it.

The coming weeks will bring music, beer, friends old to new, and more than a few welcome curve balls, that is New York City. Before I know it I'll be on the road again, exploring and living with the wind before the mandatory June 12th return. I have more than a few people and cities on my mind, but I'm also liable to be thrown in any random direction, so we will see.

  1. Hi Ken,

This is Sandeep from Couchsurfing (sandeepc). I was telling you about the French guy who hitch-hiked around the world. This is his website:
